The Couch-to-5K Running Plan. This is great if you’re interested in running (and you’re physically up to it) but don’t know where to start. It’s a schedule of running and walking three times per week for 20 to 30 minutes. The first workout is intervals of jogging for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds, and over nine weeks, it gradually builds up to jogging for 30 minutes. I used the Couch to 5K Running Plan twice, and I know a lot of other people have also used it as a place to start.
Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training blog. He blogs to promote his Turbulence Training programs, which aren’t free, but he does post lots of free workouts and videos and helpful fitness/nutrition advice.
Skwigg’s site and blog. Okay, if you only look at one site for fitness/nutrition it has to be this one. Skwigg has reviews on tons of fitness programs and reads just about everything to do with real fitness and nutrition. She also stays current with all that stuff so she usually ends up reviewing a new book or program while others are still trying to decide whether they want to buy it. Skwigg has thoughtfully created a page with a collection of free workouts, many of which can be done from home.
One hundred push-ups. This is fun and it gives you a schedule (based on your starting point) of three short push-up workouts per week.
